Magickal New Year's eve cuisine recipes

Why not cook a meal for You and Your family, in  a traditional, spiritual fashion, and  while at it,
attract blessings and abundance for You and Your beloved , on New Year's eve? Spending it home, rejoicing, with people You love, in a cozy  atmosphere, whit a fire crackling in Your chimney, as You await a first-footer, with whom You will share Your magickal meal, specially prepared for this occasion. Good mojo ahead, I say J
Here are some easy and powerful recipes for Your convenience:

Hoppin' John

The auspicious lucky powers of this meal, lie within symbolism,
as Mrs yronwode  explains in her book “Hoodoo herb and Root magick; A material magica of African American Conjure” :
African American often explain the custom of dining the Blackeyed peas ,Cornbread, and  Cabbage  or Collard greens on New Year’s  by saying that Beans bring general good luck; the cornbread, being yellow, draws “gold” or coins; and the cabbage or greens, resembling U.S. paper currency, attracts folding green for the year to come.” [1]

Following recipe is courtesy of Paula Dean and is retrieved from here, for educational and illustrative purposes without any ill will:

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 small red bell pepper, chopped
  • Garlic powder
  • 2 cups black-eye peas, cooked
  • 2 cups cooked rice
  • House Seasoning, recipe follows
  • 8 sprigs fresh parsley, for garnish
  Directions:

Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion, bell pepper, and garlic powder, to taste, and cook for 5 minutes. Add peas and rice and cook an additional 10 to 15 minutes. Be careful not to overcook; this dish is best if the bell pepper and onion still have a crunch to them. Add House Seasoning, to taste. Garnish each serving with sprig of parsley.

House seasoning
  • 1 cup salt
  • 1/4 cup black pepper
  • 1/4 cup garlic powder

Mix ingredients together and store in an airtight container for up to 6 months. [2]

Cornbread recipe

Cornbread is a staple part of older, now bit archaic cuisine of country I come from. I never really liked it much, I find it “edible” lol, but experimenting with some recipes I’ve found out it can be really nice when properly made. Here is one of the traditional recipes;  which is very basic and favorable for people who happen to be fasting at time of New Year, like I usually do

You’ll need:
·         500 grams of all-purpose wheat flour
       ·         500 grams of yellow cornmeal
       ·         25 grams of dry yeast
       ·         1 teaspoon  of brown sugar ( white can be used too, my personal preference is brown )
       ·         1 spoon of salt
       ·         1 spoon of vinegar
       ·         ½ of cup ( 0,5 dl ) of melted margarine, or vegetable oil
       ·         ½ of liter ( 500 ml ) of lukewarm water
As You see, no eggs nor honey, which  commonly found in States or UK versions of Cornbread.

1.       Mix a teaspoon of sugars with yeast, and warm water, and leave it to sit until the fermentation starts ( 10-20 minutess top )
       2.       In a larger mixing bowl combine :  300 gr. Of wheat flour, 300 gr. Of cornmeal, salt, oil and vinegar. Now add the yeast from the previous step, and adding a bit of lukewarm water and the remaining flour, mix, and knead the dough until it becomes even, moderately thick, and stops adhering to  Your hands.
       3.       Leave the dough for 30 minutes to sit, then knead again, one of twice. Leave it to sit, preferably in a covered bowl,  on warm place, for another 30 minutes, then  knead it once again.
       4.        After that, on a flat surface, You’ve sprinkled generously with flour, knead a bit once more, and then divide the dough in two parts. Place  both parts in bread molds or casseroles, which were previously oiled, and sprinkled lightly with flour, then leave them sit  for  30 minutes, and after that place them in an oven, on 220’C for  30 minutes.
       5.       After 30 minutes,  set the oven on 150’C and  bake for 10 more minutes.
       6.       You can sprinkle the baked Cornbread with some warm water. If  You wish You mad dissolve some honey in  it, though this will render the Cornbread sweat instead of neutral and thus more cake like and less bread like.
This  Cornbread, as I make it, it’s clearly more of a bread than a cakey thing You might be used to with eggs and milk.  More so because it contains yeast.  If You add an egg, lessen the amount of flour,  and substitute whole or a part of water in this recipe, with milk, You can get the a very cake-like consistency and taste.
Cleansing sauce
Following sauce combines cleansing, and evil banishing botanicals ( herbs and spices ) and is hence ideal for Your New Years eve or Christmas roast meat,  for other than   being delicious, it also has magickal properties, to cleanse and remove evil.  What You need is:
·         One whole, large onion
       ·         Three long Celery stalks
       ·         Five large Sage leafs
       ·         Rosemary  branch
       ·         Basil leaves, about half a teaspoon
       ·         Chicken brooth
       ·         Some butter or oil
       ·        Some crumbled Cornbread
       ·         Salt
       ·         Pepper
Chop ( or cube ) the Onion and the Celery stalks, and place them in a pan  dressed with some oil or butter. Margarine works well too.  Saute the Onions and Celery, and then drizzle with Chicken broth when they get really tender and brownish. Cook in broth  for few minutes. Then add  some butter ( margarine and oil work equally well  ) then crumbled cornbread,   bruised or minced sage leafs, rosemary branch which has too been chopped to small pieces, Basil leafs crumbled and bruised, and Salt and Pepper as desired. Cook for 3-5 more minutes , mixing constantly so it does not burn.
Strain If You wish, I don’t.   Bon appétit !  Best with roast meat and potatoes.

Enjoy :)

Magickal New Year's eve

 “Only now it’s gone
   I can see the year,
See it for what it was
And start another day”

                                                                       Dido, “End of Night”

Indeed, whatever bad  had the year (now ) passing brought to You,  it’s days away to becoming past. And past is there to learn from,  not to keep looking back on it, cling, or dwell upon. It’s time consuming, non productive, and masochistic.

Instead, do as wise spiritual people have done for ages, use the energy of the New Year to
substitute the bad things with the good ones. Illness with health , poor with lavish , stagnant to moving , failure to success . If it sounds hard to You, it may be due to a wrong approach to the whole issue. It’s not hard at all, and I wrote ( on here ) already about how to  use the helpful energy of transition from old to new ( year )  to  cut ties with bad  and welcome the good.

There is an evident, unwritten law in spiritual world, that sells tones of books in “self help” and “popular psychology” department,  which is, that the most proficient way to get something good in Your life, to attract and attain something positive, is to get rid of something old, unnecessary and  harmful, and thus, make space for the good.  The end of December and beginning of January are ideal ( !! ) times for this.

Different cultures  have all their variations of  (pre) New Year cleansing and preparations, but  the very essence is the same.

In Scotland, there is a common  practice of rituals   which intend to “sain” a place or person, or both. Sain is archaic, for making sign of Cross, and refers to practice of  spiritual cleansing and blessing, and keeping evil influences away  [1]

Here is one of such rituals, which to me seems particularly befitting for New Year’s eve:

The  following ritual ( or spell )  simultaneously spiritually cleanses and blesses the area and all the participants alike:

·         Collect “Holy” Water – from a local, nearby living source of water , between midnight and dawn, coinciding with a waxing  Moon

·         All participants of the ritual  should gather in a circle

·         Pass the water sunvise for each person to sip, and sprinkle tad bit over themselves

·         Sprinkle the water in each corner of the room [2]

This  is a practice which is common among Orthodox Christians who live on Balkan peninsula,  only the water used is the one attained on Epiphany or Teophany Christian holiday

A great cleaning ( physical ) and cleansing ( spiritual ) is usually due before holidays. It’s part of both mundane and spiritual tradition, and as I mentioned earlier, it’s done to get rid of what needs to be rid off , and thus make space for something positive and coveted , to take it’s place.  It’s not unlike to a double action transformation candle   ,  use to banish negative  and draw positive, and these purifications works also ensure that we do not drag our problems, and ills , into New Year.

Some can be done on the very, day, for example a broom cleansing rituals, fumigation, use of floor washes such as Household Ammonia, and Chinese wash,  aspersing with Holy Water, and combinations of any of those mentioned .  I, myself am also quite fond of those methods that “drain” the place out of negativity, sponge the bad vibrations, If You will , though these may require more planning, as they are done consecutively for few days  anywhere from 3 to 13, most often 3 or 7   .

Here are few suggestions:

·         A large bowl of white rice ( Oryza spp. ), placed somewhere in the room which needs to be cleansed. Replace weekly

·         Onions  ( Alium cepa  ) are amazing negativity sponges, and neutralizers .  Chop , by hand, on quarters, an  unpeeled whole Onion, and place the pieces in four corners of the room. Bury them the next day, or burn them.   This should be done 5-7 days successively, for most in depth cleansing.

·         Similarly and egg placed in four corners will serve to absorb negativity and is replaced ( if needed ) after 7 days. Also extremely powerful in  absorbing the negative vibrations.

·         Much like the White rice, a bowl of  vinegar replaced weekly serves to absorb the negativity, and  to make attacks of evil people and spirits “turn sour”, that is fail

·         A square of Camphor, dissolved in pan  of water placed under bed will provide personal cleansing, room cleansing, and peaceful ( sometimes also prophetic ) dreams, while also discouraging “attacks while sleeping” , particularly those of evil spirits

·         A simple cup of salt in each corner of the room, replaced weekly, will absorb all the negativity present in room where used

And personal cleaning is not to be neglected. All sort of spiritual baths  can be (under)taken  for personal cleansing,  with special attention paid to head washing , and the often neglected feet washing. Here is an example of a simple wash that can be used for both head, and feet, or whole body, to spiritually cleanse , uncross , and bless at the same time

·         Hyssop infusion

·         Blessed salt

·         Laundry bluing ( substitute with blue food coloring if You have no other alternative )

·         Rosemary

·         Lavender

·         Basil leafs

·         Holy water , or Florida water

After a thorough cleaning, and physical cleansing, You can  proced with any kind of Blessing or
drawing ( money , love, success, business etc. ) , You can for example light a Van Van, or Blessing candle ( Peaceful home, or House Blessing  candle work brilliantly )  and read 62nd Psalm, or wash the premises and family members clothes with water in which peaceful home bath crystals have been dissolved.

You can wash the floor with Patchouli, Cinnamon and Brown sugar to attract money,  and wash Your doorknobs of Your store/workplace  with Yellow dock root infusion  to attract customers.

I hope this post was informative and inspirational, and many blessings and luck to all my readers in New Year. Love

Shadow J

Yuza Yuza formula, and how to concoct old formulas

Now  that was a tough one J

A reader asked me  If I knew the formula for so called "Yuza Yuza" oil. I knew it was  a necromantic oil, but that pretty much summed what I knew about it, other than  what it’s used for. So I decided to do some research and promised them I’ll post  when I have something “concrete”.
Illustration depicting alleged John Dee and Edward
Kelly's necromantic ritual

There are hardly any written information about it, insofar of what I could access and get.  Entries online about it are scarce,  and do not speak about the actual formulae, that is the ingredients.  One blog-post,   though  was extremely helpful,   found on    nifty informative blog called  Crossroads Of Sorcery”   , which  provided authors own attempt on reconstructing the recipe.

And most often, this is simply the best way to go about the formula, one which is unknown to  You, and the information about traditional recipe are lost  or not overly trustworthy.  You combine agents, which mixed will produce effect(s) desired. Pretty much like I did with my “Aunt Sally dream powder/oil”  which included as ingredients :

·         Star Anise seeds or essential oil
      ·         Calendula flowers
      ·         Poppy flower petals
      ·         Blueberry leafs

And few optional ingredients.  I have later learnt about one formula for it, posted  online that contained Licorice, Cinnamon, Cardamom, and Coriander  [1]  Other then perhaps Cinnamon, other ingredients don’t make much sense in a formula which is to aid in "dreaming lucky" . Sure, Cardamom and Coriander can help one found and attract a new partner,  but normally, not through dreams about them. It can be speculated that the given formula can   lead to dreaming about   and finding a new partner, consequentially, but that’s not only the fare stretch, but also just a fragment of what the formula is used for. On some places online I’ve even found posted, along this formula, claims, how that was an “authentic” , old or traditional formula. To me, personally, it looks like something out of Hreman Slater’s formulary. Whatmore,  we must take  in consideration that many of the traditional formulas can be either lost completely or known to a small amount of people which are said  to keep them secret and pass on to their  descendants. Which means, the given formula could merely be  one of those given away, but with false or incomplete ingredients, which was done often by traditional   Hoodoo practitioners to   mislead  the nosey  people.

My point being, when we can not determine the authenticity of the formula, we can only rely on the knowledge about herbal materia magica, and see If the ingredients  ( will )  fit, or If we can not find any formula, we are  better  off composing one ourselves.

Now, back to Yuza Yuza oil, it’s hard even to determine the origin of this one. There is such a thing as Yuzu oil in aromatherapy, in fact it's an  "essential oil" of a Japanese ( native ) fruit Citrus reticulata, or Citrus inchanhensis. It's a type of Citrus, and Lemon oil ( also a Citrus, obviously ) is common  ingredient in Medium people's mixtures, according to Anna Riva. Citrus scent is indeed present in many necromantic, or  ghost related oil mixtures widely available from occult good suppliers.  Could then  this Yuzu essential oil have something to do with the name and formula it's hard to say, and at best it's just speculation, and thing to consider.

Formula given in Slater's formulary calls for Myrrh and Cedar as ingredients and black dye [2]. Cypress and Myrrh make sense  for a necromantic oil.

Yet Yuza Yuza is not just an oil used to merely invoke/evoke  the spirits of the dead , it’s  also supposed to exert control  over them and send them after someone, so they will torment and haunt them, and cause them misfortune and all sort of trouble. So it is also  hexing type of oil.  In his book “Voodoo sorcery Grimoire” the author places this oil neck to neck in terms  of it’s hexing potency/power to “Yula perfume”, and claims it’s a “deadly, hexing potion” that is used in hexes and calling “evil spirits of the dead”   [3]

In “Materia magica” by Draja Mickaharic, Yuza Yuza oils is described in similar fashion, and  there is also a suggestion on how to use it to “cross” a place, which we can assume to be a house, or a building or dwelling of some kind. It lists as ingredients Asafoetida and Wormwood, [4] which makes more sense than Cypress and Myrrh, though the latter two  can still benefit the oil greatly,  but they can hardly stand on their own.  I would also myself, add  a controlling agent of a kind, like Mullein leaf , which is used in Hoodoo to control the evil spirits, among  it’s other uses. So considering  all that, here is how  I’d make Yuza Yuza  oil :

Yuza Yuza oil

Combine, in a base of mineral oil following ingredients:

·         Cypress wood or essential oil

·         Myrrh resin or essential oil

·         Asafoetida, powdered

·         Wormwood, dry

·         Mullein leaf , dry, large

·         OPTIONAL: Galangal root, or Solomon Seal root

Let it all sit at least for 2 weeks, best if for month. Try not to get this on Your own skin and hands, not only that it’s irritant, and ( when ingested ) toxic, but You’d probably end up being crossed Yoursef. Solomon seal root, and Galangal root are optional ingredients, which can increase the level of control over the invoked/evoked ghosts  and also  raise the vibrations and increase the occult power. Hence the inclusion, but the oil should work more than fine without them.

Yuza Yuza crossing spells

If You wish to cross a place, or cause  it to be haunted and misfortunate,  lay a small amount of the oil in the four corners of the place, and draw and X patter at    the centre, while calling out the evil ghosts to inhabit the place and torment  Your targets/victims

If You want to cause a person to be haunted by a particular dead spirit, go to a graveyard, light a  black candle dressed with Yuza Yuza oil,    and placed atop the First pentacle of Saturn, on their grave.  Now take some graveyard dirt, from their grave, and tell the spirit to follow the dirt. Explain the spirit what is it  that  You want it to do.  Leave some coins ( a single silver coin, like the Inidan head cent, or Winged liberty dime, which  were used in states, would do best )  and pour some whiskey  over their gravestone.  Take the dirt with You and leave the graveyard without looking back.  Place the graveyard dirt, in a small charm/mojo bag, or in a small jar. If You are using the mojo bag, dress it with Yuza Yuza oil. If You are using the jar, add some Yuza Yuza oil inside the jar, along with the dirt  too.  Either way, lay the trick somewhere in the targeted person/victim’s yard or house, under the doorstep for example.

PLEASE NOTE:  Now it should go without saying that even though I did suggest the first method, and came up  with the second one, I by  no means advocate such nasty crossings to be done liberally.  I could not imagine myself ever doing it to someone, but some people might. Hence it’s Your own moral and ethic standards to be consulted prior to deciding to use these methods,  and I will not be held responsible for anything that may occur as a result of   that.

Another reader, quite some time ago asked me about Cleo Mayformula,  and I’ve posted an article about  it. If You’re into formulas, You might  like to give it   a read

Hydromancy and water scrying

The desire to know, and thus affect the future, or even attain information about past or present through spiritual means, has spawned so many forms of mantic arts, or divination methods. People have always been ( and still are ) trying very hard, to see clearly  he truth, using spiritual methods,  to get precious information about future, guidance, and read omens, all to increase the quality of their lives and uplift themselves.

From  a silly teenage girl, doing one of them sappy love divinations to find out If that guy likes her,  over  that  guy gazing into a bowl of water that reflects the full Moon in order to foresee the upcoming events, to a notorious  necromancer invoking ghosts to get information from them,  divination is what they  all are engaging in.

I’ve already written about how to use playing cards in divination method  known as cartomancy before, and today we will focus on a more “spiritual” method. Divination using the element  of water, also known as hydromancy.
Galadriel and her magick "mirror", a speculum made with water

Hydromancy and hidroscopy

Hydromancy, often also referred to as Hydroscopy   is an art of divination using water as  a medium, scrying surface or tool. Term hydromancy ( Old Greek “hydros” – water and “manteia” divination  )  was more often used for those methods that were more “mystical” in nature , and “modus operandi”,  such as let’s say water scrying.  The term Hydroscopy ( Old Greek “scopein” – to observe ) was rarely ever used, and when it was,  it was used to describe  those methods which had more scientific   procedures about them, like the methods with ring pendulum and glass, or casting stones on steady/calm water surface  to cause ripples.

In Renaissance magick, Hydromancy  came to be one of the seven “artes magicae “ or “artes pohibitae”  that is one of the “seven forbidden arts”, according to canon law , as expounded by  J. Hartlieb  in 1456th [1]

Water is an element associated traditionally with feminine, intuition, psychic powers, emotions, and Moon  ( among other things ) , hence it makes an ideal medium for spiritual work known as divination. It’s also associated with Archangel Gabriel, harbinger of  important news, and holder of mystical  knowledge and   secrets,  as well as Archangel known to guide people  and advice them.

So other than observing the water behavior itself, and effects it caused on other objects, water was seen as  one of the ideal scrying surfaces,  which meant that gazing  upon in, in near-trance-like state would give practitioners visions  and  symbolic insight.  Therefore, we can  freely say that water scrying , or gazing was what inspired catmoptromancy, or divination by mirror reflections, for water surfaces were the first mirrors  available and known to humans. Later the two were even often combined in divination, like in example described by Pausianias, an second century Greek traveler:

Before the Temple of Ceres at Patras, there was a fountain, separated from the temple by a wall, and there was an oracle, very truthful, not for all events, but for the sick only. The sick person let down a mirror, suspended by a thread till its base touched the surface of the water, having first prayed to the goddess and offered incense. Then looking in the mirror, he saw the presage of death or recovery, according as the face appeared fresh and healthy, or of a ghastly aspect” [2]

Various ( both ) diverse and similar methods of hydromancy spin the globe.

In Ancient Greece, there was a custom where one would hold a mirror just bellow to water surface, on the “holy” oracle hill  of Zeus in Dodona ( 14th century BC ), though it’s wise to note here that the Zeus mentioned was not the Olympian Zeus, which came considerably later. [3]

Divination observing the mirror or the water surface, was common practice in Ancient Egypt, and was  dedicated to their goddess Hathor,  who was reputed to had possessed a magickal shield or mirror  which had been able to show to true nature of any person or object, and was  hence a feared item, for few were ready to deal with what they would see in it.  What more, legends say that Ra’s “holy”  eye was given in custody to Hathor ( or even “in form of goddess Hathor” ) and that using it she was able to see anything in the world.  It’s no surprise then, than in  Heka, it was/is customary to  observe water surface  placed in orange bowl , which reflected flame or the Moon ,   while burning Rose  incense and petitioning Hathor for inspiration and visions .

In early French traditions it was customary to use spring water  for divination, poured in a dark bowl. Saffron was burnt as an incense, and the  sprigs of Ash, along with flowers of Verbena or/and Wintergreen were placed all around the bowl, which was then used as a speculum. When the  scrying was completed, and needed information gained, the contents were poured on the  ground, to  preserve the link with the Earth. [4] It is said that Nostradamus often practiced hydromancy, and that he had a brass vessel with water, placed on metal tripod,  used for such occasions.

Calm lake  surfaces are often, by Pagans , called Diana’s mirrors, and are used to gaze upon, and entice visions ,   in nights when they reflect  Full or waxing Moon.  Lake Nemi, in Lazio region in Itally, nearby the town also called Nemi, is sacred to pagan goddess Diana. It’s a  beautiful, small volcanic lake,  that ,  in  times of Ancient Rome , was where  the festival called Nemoralia ( 13-15th August )   had taken place.  The lake was called “speculum Diani”  ( lat. Diana’s mirror ). Ancient Roman priests that would conduct  readings , using mirrors and water surfaces for   divination were called “speculari  .

Often, other substances  such as ink ( traditionally in  India, and some other  Eastern cultures ), dyes, or oils, like done in Italian  folk magick , were added to  help entrance the mind and the eye of beholder, and form ominous symbols.  In Italy, one of the methods of diagnosing  evil eye's effects presence in someone’s life, was to pour olive oil in bowl with water, drop by drop, while   reciting incantations,   until certain, auspicious symbol would appear,  most commonly an eye.

In Enochian magick,  Angels are often evoked, to appear in the glass with water,  using prayers,  incantations and words of power,  after which they would provide  guidance. Archangel Uriel is traditionally evoked this way, and in some methods “innocent child” is required to  perform part of the ritual.

Ceromancy ( divination  by  using wax, most often candle wax ) if another method often combined  with   hydromancy , in which case the candle wax was dripped , from a burning candle, into a vessel  with water, and  the symbols and shapes forming,  were interpreted.

Here  are  a few practical methods You can use to divine using water :

Water ripples technique

Best done outdoor, it requires  but a few pebbles and a  steady, calm water surface. Lakes were  most preferred for this, though  really, a small pond, a fountain, even a puddle could do.

The diviner asks the question, aloud, but not yelling. Some say three times.  The question should be formulated /phrased in such manner that it can  be answered with either yes, or no, or “positive” and “negative” outcome.   Then one is to cast a small pebble and count  the number or the ripples.   Odd numbers were considered a “yes” or “positive outcome” answer,  and naturally, even numbers were interpreted as a “no”, or “negative outcome” answer.  Splashes, strange intense sounds produced when casting the pebble, also indicated “explosive” , swift development.    Long distance between the ripple circles,  or absence of the same was a call to caution, warning about obstacles on someone’s path, or slow development of  the things that were to unfold in future. Plainly put, it often meant, the  diviner, or the one whom the reading is being given, should take charge of things, they question about.

The Jesuit M.A. Del Rio  ( 1551-1608 )  describing several methods of hydromancy [5],  said that three pebbles are to be used for this method, in which case You could either sum all the ripples  You’ve gotten, or interpret each as “yes” or “no” answer , and the definite one being the one  that appears twice.

Ring and glass method

This is the method most teenage girls know J   It’s a simple, yes or no answer-giving  method, that requires :

·         A vessel with water, preferably a tall  narrow glass
      ·         Ring hung on a string, like a pendulum
      ·         Water to fill the glass, naturally J

The diviner is to place the glass with water in front of themselves,  dip the ring in it,  wait until it becomes steady. Then, the diviner asks the  question, and then gently swirls the vessel couple of times.  Number of times the ring hits the side is indicative of yes, or no, answer, same rule  applied to water ripple technique ( the previous one that was suggested )  goes here as well.  Loud strikes of the ring, were considered  to foretell a   negative  outcome, whereas the quiet, and / or dull strikes were   ominous of an desired, positive way the issue  would unfold.

Water scrying

This is a simple and traditional method, calling for a simple vessel of water, and some dye, or ink. I like to use Indigo ink, or Dragon’s blood, but  virtually any ink will too. Furthermore, I found that certain tea infusions, like that of green/black tea,  which appear with that oil-shiny  active components  layer, on the surface, can serve as well.

In any case, preferred time is  night, or sunset. A dark glass bowl is filled with water, and placed so that it  does not reflect the diviner, but instead,  reflects some light, be it natural, like  that of the Full Moon, or a candle’s flame. From there, there are various variations of the technique.

·         One can add few drops of ink, after they have asked the question, observing the shapes that will the ink form in contact with water .  In India, the pour the ink on their palm, and then let it  drip from the palm into the  bowl.

·         One can add drops of  oil  in similar fashion, and interpret in similar fashion.

·         One can observe the  clean water surface, fixing on it, gazing. After a while one closes the eyes and opens them again, looks at the water in the bowl, and starts blinking swiftly. The images will appear, and other than their shape and symbolism , the diviner observes how do the images move and where do they appear. Images that appear to be approaching  to the diviner, speak of event or person appearing in near future. If the picture is moving away from the diviner,  it’s about something that had already taken place, or someone who’s slowly   going away from  their life, or  some past issue that is still bothering person in question.  Images appearing on the left speak  about concrete things, money, possessions and so on.   Those appearing on right speak    in symbolism.    If the images appear near the surface, they speak of the issues that require quick action, and those appearing “bellow” the surface , or near the   rims,  are considered “not so urgent”. Larger images  are considered of , obviously,  larger importance.

Any of the methods mentioned can be cunningly combined. What most of the water scrying methods have in common is  that they should be done in darkened rooms, illuminated by only candlelight, sunset or moonlight to  get the best  or the reading. Also, the  diviner should take care not to  let their own  image  get reflected in the bowl with  water.

I place  a print of “Sigilum Dei Aemeth” bellow the bowl/s I use for scrying, so any  seal that has to do with truth, clarity, prophecy and similar, can be used to “empower” the ritual even further.

Herbs, powders and crystals are also sometimes arranged around the  bowl/vessel with the water, things like Verbena, Sage, Clarity powder, Amethyst or Quartz crystals, and so on.

Water agitation method, or “Resonance” method

As described on another site:

In some rituals people use a wand made from the branch of a bay tree, hazel tree or the laurel. The end of the wand should be covered in dry tree sap or resin. Dip the end of the wand into the water until it becomes wet. Wet the rims of the bowl. By gently drawing the rim of the wand around the bowl it will cause it to resonate. The action of the resonating basin will cause circular ripples to form in the basin. The water may seem to breathe with the sounds.” [6]

I’ve heard this being done with a crystal point, and even with a finger. Loud and unpleasant noises would indicate  negative outcome, and vice verca,  gentle and melodic sounds would  foretell  positive outcome. Disturbed and uneven ripples   are ominous about some danger or urgent issue, harmonic, and  even ripples foretell about period of wealth, and  luck, or speak of success which comes from hard work.

It would be extremely interesting to me to experiment  adding  few drops of Indigo ink when using   this method. J
